Best Numbing Cream for Microblading

Best Numbing Cream for Microblading

One aesthetic technique that is becoming increasingly popular is microblading – which involves making realistic-looking eyebrows with carefully placed pigment. Microblading produces excellent results that are semi-permanent, which means they have to be touched up occasionally but in general will stay for at least two years. The procedure makes it so that eyebrows always look perfect and never need to be filled in. Since it involves the use of small incisions in the skin, microblading can be somewhat painful and a topical anesthetic cream is almost always applied first. The best numbing cream for microblading is a triple anesthetic cream, which is much more powerful than a typical non-prescription numbing cream.

How Does Microblading Work?

Microblading involves using small blades that pigment the skin in a way that is semi-permanent. Some individuals who have this procedure have lost their eyebrows due to a medical condition. Most however simply want to spend less time in the morning grooming and filling in their eyebrows.

To get the best results, two sessions are needed spaced about a month apart. The skin needs time to heal after the first session, and then in the second session touch-ups and finer lines are drawn. The incisions can be painful but a topical anesthetic is used to ensure a comfortable, pain-free experience.

Microblading and eyebrow tattooing are different techniques. Eyebrow tattooing is a more permanent procedure while microblading is semi-permanent. An eyebrow tattoo involves inserting ink deep into the skin. A microblade tool makes small incisions, and then pigment is left to seep in. Because microblading is more superficial than a tattoo, it will last around two to three years.

Numbing Cream with Three Anesthetic Ingredients

The small incisions made in the skin with the microblade tool can be painful. That is why a numbing cream is always used before a procedure. Some practitioners will use a cream containing only lidocaine at 5% strength or lower, which may not be enough for many patients. The best numbing cream for microblading is a stronger topical anesthetic with multiple anesthetic ingredients.

A triple anesthetic made at our compounding pharmacy includes benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine in one cream, which we call BLT cream. This powerful compounded anesthetic cream is used by dermatologists and aestheticians for a variety of procedures including laser resurfacing, Botox treatments, and now microblading.

Vasoconstrictors in Topical Anesthetics

Some topical anesthetics include the vasoconstrictor phenylephrine, which helps the anesthetic stay in the area it is applied longer and reduces systemic effects. In general this is not included in the triple anesthetic cream however, as it is powerful enough on its own. Each anesthetic ingredient has different duration times so it is effective soon after application and for a longer period of time than a cream containing only lidocaine.

How to Use BLT Cream for Microblading

Before a microblading treatment, the numbing cream can be applied directly to the eyebrow area with a Q-tip and left on for 15-20 minutes. For powerful compound topical anesthetics like BLT Cream a full half-hour is usually not required like it may be for lower strength anesthetics. Once the area is completely numb the area is cleaned off and the practitioner can start.

BLT cream requires prescriptions to order. They must be electronically submitted or faxed to the pharmacy. An account must first be set up by the healthcare provider.

Do you have plans to develop a numbing cream for permanent eyeliner like the BLT for the brows? I would very much like to have something better than what is now on the market.

We would be happy to work on developing a numbing cream for this purpose. Any feedback you have on the cream you are using now would be appreciated. What do you not like about it?

The topical numbing creams we provide are prescription-only. BLT cream is a powerful prescription numbing cream that may be used with a microblading procedure.

Hi. Since Microblading doesn’t required an in house healthcare professional for the business, is there a numbing cream that can be use without a prescription??? I have a tatoo and a micropigmentation license.

Is the BLT numbing cream only safe to use for pre numbing before and strokes are done and the skin is opened, or is it safe for after as well, during the process of creating the strokes? Also, do you ship to Utah? Thanks!

No we are not currently licensed in Utah. The BLT Cream should always be completely removed before starting any procedure. It is not formulated for post-procedure anesthesia and should not be applied to broken skin.

All of our numbing creams require a prescription. If you want to use a stronger, prescription-strength numbing cream you should go to a dermatologist.

I do not get numb with BLT. I have trouble getting numb at the dentist as well. Novacain doesn’t work on me after large amounts injected. My dentist recently tried Septocaine on me and it worked with only a couple injections as opposed to 20 novacaine injections. Do u know if there is a topical Septocaine I could use when I get my brows done?
